What's the difference between the iPower and a standard UPS?
The iPower is a DC UPS system, whereas a standard UPS is an AC UPS system. For low power DC applications such as routers, modems, CCTV etc., the iPower provides a highly efficient battery backup solution as there is no unnecessary conversion (the UPS in backup mode converts DC/DC to AC then your power supply converts this AC to DC, the iPower simply has DC to DC). What's more the iPower replaces the existing power supply thereby taking up no extra space.
I've just received the iPower and the Fault light is on when I plug it in
The battery isolator tab may still be in place. Please remove this. It is a see-through plastic tab on the battery compartment.

Can the iPower be cold started? Eg. Be powered up from off with no AC power available?
No, the iPower automatically starts up when AC power is applied. The only control available is to switch the unit off when unplugged.
iPowers produced after April 2017 can now be cold started by holding the control button for 5 seconds. The older units have "OFF" next to the control button, whereas the later units have "On/Off".
How do I switch the unit off?
Unplug the unit (or switch off AC supply) and press and hold the OFF button for 5 seconds.
I want to hardwire the iPower to my equipment - is this OK?
This will void the warranty but technically this is OK. For reference the positive cable is identified with a white line. Alternatively use the hardwire adapter (see below)
How much runtime will I get with the iPower?
Around 20 minutes at full load. We've measured the runtime on typical routers rated at 1A, 1.5A and 2A. The runtime obtained was 2½ hours, 2 hours and 1½ hours. A runtime table is available on the brochure and instruction manual available as a download from the product page.
What is the output voltage?
The output voltage is fixed at 12V. This is a regulated voltage to within ±5%
How do I know if I can use the iPower for my router?
Check the specifications of your router. The input voltage must be 12V and either the wattage if specified must be under 25W, or the maximum current under 2.1A (2100mA). Alternatively, look at the output characteristics of your existing power supply and if the iPower is equal to or better, then you can use the iPower. The iPower output connector is a 2.1mm (standard) jack.
